Avalanche of fed & local police state crackdown activity in Minnesota! Criminal intelligence data and moar
Stressful day in Minneapolis as feds raided antiwar activists with no actual charges in the offing. The day before the raids I checked out a weird police intelligence workgroup at the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, and with other threads coming together it was pretty freaky.
But I managed to slap together some videos so please tell yr friends if you like :) For more info on the police intel database stuff please see Rich Neumeister's new blog at http://opensecretsmn.blogspot.com/. Welcome to Internets, Rich!
New MN Police Intel Workgroup, Ramsey Co Sheriff Bob Fletcher RNC data requests, fusion centers
By Dan Feidt -- On the rainy Thursday just before the massive FBI raid against peace activists in Minneapolis, law enforcement officials spent a day at the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension headquarters in St Paul presenting many of Minnesota's lesser-known police database systems, taking questions from a formal panel at an open meeting. The "SF 2725 Workgroup," a panel of mostly law enforcement, plus NAACP and ACLU representatives, which is supposed to recommend a new policy on the laws surrounding Minnesota police databases. At this meeting, the workgroup's third, Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher discussed handling data practices requests after the 2008 RNC for members of the RNC Welcoming Committee, "well, not all of them" and "a related group" which very likely could be the now-raided Anti-War Committee. http://www.bca.state.mn.us/SF2725/Meeting082510/Recording%2008252010%20M... http://www.bca.state.mn.us/SF2725/Meeting090810/Recording%20090810%20Mee...
Minneapolis Activist Raid Press Conference 9/24/10 FBI Antiwar Crackdown
The social justice community in Minneapolis continued to respond Friday afternoon to the raids of several of its members homes, which started before 7am this morning. Since then, a dozen activists have been served with grand jury subpoenas, including many in Minneapolis, according to Fight Back News. It is believed the federal grand jury is centered in Chicago, and is investigating alleged ties to "foreign terrorist organizations"--a charge which activists have immediately dismissed as illegitimate and unjustified. The Star Tribune reported earlier today that according to an FBI spokesperson, a total of six homes were raided in Minneapolis and two in Chicago. This statement is unconfirmed by activists, who have identified at least four of the homes in Minneapolis--one above Hard Times Cafe in Cedar-Riverside, one north of Powderhorn Park, one on Park Avenue near Lake Street and one in Stevens Square. Antiwar leaders have said that other members of the Freedom Road Socialist Organization were targeted with raids, surveillance and subpoenas in Michigan, North Carolina and potentially California. http://tc.indymedia.org/2010/sep/updated-info-least-four-minneapolis-hou... http://tc.indymedia.org/2010/sep/breaking-news-least-four-houses-minneap... http://rnc8.org

Many members of groups belonging to the Minnesota Coalition for a People's Bailout were targeted by the FBI.
Thousands have come together in response to the FBI raids on seven homes and an anti-war office on Friday, September 24, 2010. Across the country organizations and individuals are standing together to protest the United States government’s attempt to silence and criminalize anti-war and international solidarity activists.
Jess Sundin said, “These raids and subpoenas are an attack on anti-war and other progressive movements. It is an attack on our freedom to speak, our freedom to assemble with like-minded people, and our freedom to tell the government that their actions and policies are wrong. It is an attempt to clear the way for more wars and occupations of other countries by the U.S. military.”
Protests against the intimidation and harassment have taken place or are planned for 39 cities across the country. From Minneapolis and Chicago, to Los Angeles, Atlanta, Kalamazoo, MI and Dallas, Texas. The response has been tremendous an continues to grow.
